Let's go fly a kite, up to the highest height!
This sounds like it would be so much fun to go with Chris and the girls:
Flyer for Gujarat Kite Festival

Here are a few pics from their festival last year:

Apparently, Saturday January 14th is Traditional Kite Flying day in Gujarat (a state in India) and people all over the state will be flying kites. How cool.

Maya is making a kite in her art class. Yesterday, a few of the students took theirs home, but Maya is very detail-oriented in her art and still working on the picture she is painting on her kite. I have to say, it is pretty amazing. She has some real talent. I can't wait until it is done - the art teacher strings it up and everything for the kids so that the kites are ready to fly. I have to remember to take dozens of pictures of that kite though, in case it gets stuck in a tree or something when we fly it. LOL

Are you from Gujarat?

The most I know is that most American Desis come from there, and that I dance Garbha and Dandya in Navratri... And Patel, Shah and Desai are well mentioned last names in Columbia. :P

(PS= The userpic is intentional too. LOL!)

No, not from Gujarat. My family is from Karnataka. But I'd love to go to this festival nonetheless.

Hi! I saw your AWESOME icon at meowmeowbutt's journal and HAD to check out your journal. I went to art school with her, and I hope you don't mind me jumping over? I also snuck the icon, but will credit. I hope you don't mind?

I am friending you, as well. You seem really interesting and we have loads in common. Please don't be freaked out ^^

This kite festival looks fabulous btw! I wish I could go!

Hey there! Sorry I never replied, I totally meant to. LOL

Don't mind at all you friending me...I'm flattered that a perfect stranger would find me interesting. I'm not freaked out. Although since you are a friend of meowmeowbutt...nah, just kidding. :-)

Welcome to my world!

I love kites! I have three of my own!

As a kid I always found them terribly disappointing - mine never flew - but a few years a go a friend bought me one as a gift and goddam it worked!!! And I was good at it!

Haven't done it in a little while though so you've prompted me to think about getting them out and taking a walk out to the hills!

I think your girls will love it too!

Wow, you got one to work?! Spiffy cool! I think I flew kites a few times as a kid, but the most striking memory I have is of my brother stepping on my panda kite and breaking it. lol, the things I remember...

I could never get them to fly as a kid which totally put me off kites.

Thank goodness my friend bought me one (I'm now in my 30's!) because I would never have known the appeal! Whats amazing is even the cheapest little stunt kites are tons of fun.

I think they were wasted on me as a kid!
