Aidan loved Coraline and can't wait for the movie! We all read City of Ember and its sequels. The movie was in theaters for about a minute in October -- we missed it, but it will be released on video at the end of this month.
He's currently reading the first book in the Redwall series by Brian Jacques, and just finished Dragon Rider by Cornelia Funke. She also wrote The Thief Lord, which is a great book! The other thing he read recently was a book by one of my favorite authors. Un Lun Dun is by China Mieville, and it's sort of along the lines of Coraline. It got rave reviews from the kid :) Isn't it awesome when they can read real books?!
As far as the book club goes, I don't have any good hints. We have a reading program at the school that grades 2 and up participate in, and that kind of drives our reading. It's one of the things our PTO supports, paying for system updates. That might be something to discuss with your principal and board if you don't already have something similar in place. You can e-mail me at my LJ username at gmail if you'd like to talk more -- I would love to talk PTO too!

Yeah, wtf, I totally missed City of Ember in the theaters! Here I am still waiting. LOL Chris is going to get it on netflix.

We were looking into the Inkheart series by C. Funke...we'll check out Thief Lord too. I didn't know that China Mieville wrote anything for kids!

I want to know more about the reading program you guys have!
