3/2/05 At our hotel
Chris woke Maya and I up this morning excited to show us something outside. SNOW! It was snowing pretty steadily. Maya was excited and wanted to get ready and get out there to play. Across the street from the hotel is a large field where people go to play soccer. It is actually a school compound, but it seems that anyone can go in there and use it when school isn't in session. I'm not entirely sure it is a school, but that morning there were lots of cars and kids being dropped off. I think it was the first day of the new school semester.
Anyway, we got ready, had our breakfast and then got bundled up. I put two sets of pants on Nadia, two layers of shirts, a sweater and her coat. She looked twice as rotund as usual! Poor girl, she didn't seem to really like it. I don't blame her. Maya got dressed in the same manner, but she didn't care, she just wanted to get out there to play. Maya and I put on our gloves, while Nadia wouldn't keep them on. So out we went. We went down one of the side streets trying to find the entrance to the school field. We went down the wrong side, so we had to walk all the way around to the other side. We finally got into the field. And first thing that Maya did was make a snow angel! The snow was about 1 to 2 inches deep! Nadia just sat right down into it and wasn't sure what to do with it. She didn't like how cold it felt on her hands, but she wouldn't keep the mittens on either, so she just sat there. Her butt was getting wet and cold, but the diaper helped keep her somewhat dry. She started to play a little when she saw Maya pick up snow and throw it at her! Nadia thought that was hilarious. That's when she started to pick it up too and throw it in the air. Maya ran around and was throwing snow balls at me and at Nadia. Maya was having lots of fun. But after a while, she started to get cold too. So after about an hour, we started back to the hotel room. Along the way, we stopped at some benches that had some snow on them and Nadia started to play with that snow again.
What was really weird was that by 4pm, most of the snow at already melted. And we haven't seen snow again since!
