Apartments
Yesterday we went to see more apartments. Paul and his wife Kelly took us to the complex where they live to see two places. This is really close to where Maya's school, which is in the international part of Seoul. Where most of the foreigners live. So, the prices of apartments there are much higher than the area that Erik took us to a couple of weeks ago. We saw two places, one was 31 pyeong (1085 square feet) and the other was 42 pyeong (1470 square feet). The bigger one was, of course, gorgeous. It has 4 bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms and a large balcony that overlooks the city and the river. The view was amazing. I think it was on the 15th floor. It was raining at the time we were there, but I could see that the view would be spectacular on a clear day. And the kitchen was big, there were built in closets in almost all the rooms (which is rare here, I think) and the rooms were a pretty good size. It really was a great place. Only problem was that it was more than what we were wanting to pay for rent.

The other place, the 31 pyeong apartment, was nice too. It is the same layout at Paul and Kelly's place, which I loved. It has 3 bedrooms, 1 1/2 baths. It would be great for us. We went to see the apartment, there are still people living there. Oh, my, they had a lot of things!! I mean, tons of little knick-knacks and their balcony looked like a jungle! I don't even know if there was a view or what kind of view it was! Seemed like every room had tons of...things! Chris had to carry Nadia, cause she could have caused a disaster in there, like a bull in a china shop! Although, they did have one of those Oriental medicine cabinets that I mentioned in one of my earlier posts. LOL

Anyway, we were ready to take the smaller apartment, but the current tenants won't be out until the 18th or so. Our stuff is supposed to be here soon, probably by the 11th or 12th. That would mean we would have to store our stuff until the apartment is ready. And storage here is at a premium - $320 a day! YIKES!!! So, taking into account the cost of storage for about a week, over the course of a year, the cost of the smaller place plus storage almost equals the larger place. And of course, this decision had to be made immediately as the owners of the larger place wanted to know right away (later we found out that they had another potential renter, we happened to be first). I freaked over having to make this decision in a half an hour this morning. Chris wanted the place but I was worried about, of course, the money. Right when I was having my crying fit, my mom called. I told her everything and she said, surprisingly, to take the bigger place and be comfortable. And she said, since Chris thinks we can handle the extra expense, then to trust him. Hearing her say that made me feel a lot better. Mom to the rescue.

So, Chris will go and sign the papers tonight. We have to put first month, last month and security deposit (equal to one month's rent) down. Well, my parents to the rescue again! They are going to wire us the money. We don't have that kind of money in the bank, quite yet. ;-)
